Milpera State High School is a unique and vibrant educational institution totally dedicated to the settlement and English language development of recently arrived migrants from backgrounds where a language other than English is spoken. Whatever the reasons for migration to Australia, as the children of business or skilled migrants, of students or as accompanied or unaccompanied refugees, all Milpera students will receive a high quality education designed to develop their English language skills and equip them for further study.
Students who are very new to learning English learn basic interpersonal communication skills through highly contextualized language learning experiences in and out of the classroom. In the later phases of their time at Milpera our students develop the more cognitive academic language proficiencies necessary for their next phase of learning. Links are made to the Australian Curriculum subjects of English, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Science and Health and Physical Education, forming the basis of the content based language learning that occurs at this stage.
